Born in 1953 in Ras El Oued, Moussa Benhamadi was a computer engineer and Doctor of Applied Mathematics specializing in information systems and networks. A researcher and academic, he became a leading figure in the development of information technologies in Algeria. As Director General of CERIST (Research Center for Scientific and Technical Information) from 1986 to 2002, he played a major role in introducing the Internet to Algeria as early as 1993. He passed away from COVID-19 in 2020. In 2025, CERIST honored his memory by naming a major infrastructure after him.
